Biography

My mame is Spiros Yannoulakis. I am 45 years old. I am married and I have 3 young children. I was born in Alexandroupoli, but I have lived most of my life in Ioannina. I finished my studies in Patra. I becamea geologist. I worked for 20 years in Egnatia Avenue Company and in a big industry, which is called « The Bottling Company of Epirus». I speak english, french and german.

My life with ALS disease

For almost 3,5 years now, I am suffering from o very rare disease, which is called amyotrophic lateral sclirosis (ALS). Only 5 persons per 100000 people get sick by this disease. My situation is getting worse everyday. I employ 2 people who take care of me for the hours that my wife has got to go to work. I have increased expenses which reach the ammount of 2000 euro per month, with the physical therapy, drugs from abroad and from Greece. In the last 3,5 years I have spent over 60000 euros for doctors, hotels, drugs from Holland, Japan and USA, for exams in private clinics, physical therapy at home and many other things.

I want to buy a machine that will lift me up which costs 2000 euros for which EOPII will pay nothing, because in the past they covered the amount for the purchase of another machine, which is not suitable for me anymore. At least if EOPII covered the cost of the two people, who work for me and take care of me, that would be a great financial help for me and for all the patients with ALS here in Greece.
